Good News Story The US Army celebrating 250 years

The United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), located in Doral in Greater Miami, Florida, is one of the eleven unified combatant commands in the United States Department of Defense. It is responsible for providing contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation for Central, South America and the Caribbean.

The United States Postal Service and the Broward County, Postal Customer Council, Customer Relation Coordinators and Postal Administrator, Edwin Vivas, Manager of Customer Relations, Joycelynn King, and President & Executive Director, Fleet Week Fort Lauderdale / Broward Navy Days Inc, J.W. Arnold spent the day with all The United States Army personal out of USSOUTHCOM.

During this event, we welcomed West Point grad, former Army Captain, and President / Chief Executive Office for the Florida Panthers, Matthew Caldwell. Celebrating the Army’s 250 Birthday, Matthew Caldwell stayed for every last photo with his fans, comrades, and his 2024 ring.

The Florida Panthers went onto to win their second straight Stanley Cup Title.

We also commemorated the United States Army with 250th Anniversary Stamp.

Good News Story BOWLING 4 Schools

The Postal Customer Council (PCC) of Broward County, mission is to foster a close working relationship between the U.S. Postal Service, Business Community, and Commercial Mailers.

The Postal Customer Council of Broward County and the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the BOWLING 4 Schools at the Sawgrass Lanes Bowlero, Tamarac, Florida. 

It was a great evening to be on the knocking over some pins. This was a friendly competition among the players and lots of fun; all participants were winners, and they received great give-away gifts. During the Bowling Outing, The PCC of Broward County acquired new members.

The United States Postal Service™ offered a pictorial postmark to commemorate the Bowling 4 Schools Event in Tamarac FL.

Individual wishing to obtain a postmark must affix the minimum of a First-Class Mail Stamp to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in flap.

Arnold spent the day with all armed based personal out of USSOUTHCOM.

During this family friendly event, there was a Fishing Tournament, Open Play Sports such as Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and Pickell ball.

There was even Military Edition Pig Roast.

We also commemorated the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and The Marines Corps, with 250th Anniversary Stamps.

20th Annual Children’s BookFest / Good News Story

The United States Postal Service and the Broward County, Postal Customer Council (PCC) participated in the 20th Annual Children’s BookFest is partnership with the Broward County Library's 2025 Summer Learning Program. The PCC, of Broward County, stepped up to support Broward County Library's, at the West Regional Library, Plantation Florida.

The fun filled day featured workshops, presentations, and the kickoff to Summer Fun - Color Our World! Every summer Children off all ages can participate in the summer reading challenge, to win great prizes. The festival included face painting, art, music and dance performances throughout the day.

Edwin J. Vivas, Customer Relations Coordinator and Postal Administrator, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between the U.S. Postal Service, local businesses, and commercial mailers. Events like these not only foster collaboration but also highlight the community’s commitment to making a difference. 

On Display was the “Shel Silverstein Forever stamp” featuring artwork from one of his most famous books, “The Giving Tree” — which was published in 1964 by Harper & Row, the book is about a friendship between a motherly tree and a boy. As the child grows older, the tree gives him its shade, apples, branches and trunk. The story ends with the boy returning as an old man to rest against the tree’s stump. The bestselling tale of selflessness, which is accompanied by the author’s elegantly simple black-and-white illustrations, is considered a classic of children’s literature.

Fleet Week 2025 Good News Story

Customer Relation Coordinators, Edwin Vivas of Broward County and Michelle Inman West Palm Beach Treasure Coast experienced “The Sailor’s Life” aboard the USS New York (LPD 21) Naval Fleet, for Fleet Week 2025. A Pictorial Postmark was presented as well, to recognize Fleet Week, as well as Navy and Marines celebrating their 250th birthday.

A naval fleet is a team of naval vessels, which includes warships and support ships, that function collectively beneath a single command. Naval fleets are typically organized around a specific mission or task, such as combat operation, training exercises or humanitarian relief efforts. 

Naval fleets are an important tool for projecting military power across the world’s oceans and seas. They allow navies to respond to a variety of threats and challenges, from piracy and terrorism to natural disasters and territorial disputes. Naval fleets also serve as a deterrent to potential adversaries, demonstrating a country’s military capabilities and willingness to defend its interests.

Fleet organization can vary depending on the size and complexity of the mission. A typical naval fleet might include aircraft carriers, destroyers, submarines, supply ships, and other vessel as well ell as aircraft and other support assets.

The 2025 Broward & Beyond Business Conference / Good News Story

The 2025 Broward & Beyond Business Conference was a no cost business event all about learning how business can educate themselves about the resources, tools, opportunities, and community partners to that can help grow their business, expand their skillsets, build relationships, and network. The conference took place Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center.
Broward & Beyond Business Conference has supported the Business Community with this annual event for 8 Years, at this event, The Postal Customer Council (PCC) of Broward County had the opportunity to network and share the different benefits and business growth opportunities the Postal Service offers. This was more than a networking event, it was the opportunity to unveil the blueprint of business growth through the synergy of postal promotions, strategic networking, and unwavering community support. The PCC accomplished more than connecting businesses; it unlocked postal promotions as a conduit for growth.
As a community service, the Postal Service offered a pictorial postmark to commemorate this local Business Conference.
During this Conference, Customer Relations Coordinators / PCC Postal Admin, Edwin Vivas, and Broward County, PCC Board Member, Robert Licari educated attendees on the various products and services the United States Postal Service has available. 
We also collected several Business Leads, that will be entered into the Submit a Lead program. The PCC of Broward County, also acquired a couple new members as well during this event. 
The 800 Plus attendees were pleased with the information provided, and the support provided to them from the Postal Customer Council of Broward County and from United States Postal Service

4th Annual Autism Support Walk, Opa-locka, FL (Good News Story)

The United States Postal Service as well as the Postal Customer Council of Broward County showed its support for the 4th Annual Autism Support Walk in Opa-locka, FL to raise awareness of the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a group of developmental disorders that affect social, communication and behavioral skills.

 Postmaster, Opa-Locka Post Office¸ Richard A. Elam and Customer Relations Coordinators, South Florida District, Edwin J Vivas joined the South Florida School of Excellence and Autism School of Excellence for the 4th Annual Autism Support Walk this April in Opa-locka, FL.

 During the event, Mr. Elam and Mr. Vivas, interacted with the community and provided United States Postal Service coloring books and crayons to the students. 

 Mr. Elam, himself participated in the walk from the Opa-Locka City Hall to Sherbondy Park. 

 While there is no medical test to diagnose ASD, but doctors can reliably evaluate a series of behavioral, emotional, and developmental skills. Although there is no cure, early intervention and treatment services can improve development throughout life.

As a community service, The United States Postal Service™ offered  pictorial postmark to commemorate the FT-LauderdaleCon on Janaury 5, 2025, at Embassy Suites Hotel, Covention Center, Fort Lauderdale, FL

FT-LauderdaleCon - Pop Culture Show Fun for the Whole Family! FT-LauderdaleCon, it was collectors Mecca pop culture convention hosted in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. 

FT-LauderdaleCon - Pop Culture Show, hosted a Cosplay Contest. Four different contests were hosted, for Best Video Game/Comic, Best TV/Movie, Best Anime/Original Character, and Best Youth. 

The FT-LauderdaleCon - Pop Culture Show; attracted hundreds of cheering fans, as well as many celebrities. Such as Tami Erin is an, best known as Pippi Longstocking star of the 1988 movie The New Adventures Of Pippi Longstocking.

During the event, we also networked with the Local Business Owners, about the Postal Customer Council (PCC) for Broward County, helping us acquire a couple of members for the PCC Of Broward County.

Winterfest Pictorial / Boat Parade Good News 2024

As a community service, The United States Postal Service™ offered  pictorial postmark to commemorate the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade on December 14, 2024, at Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park in Fort Lauderdale, FL 

Winterfest has best known for its one-of-a-kind Boat Parade, that brings together the community and visitors from around the world. Furthermore, the Winterfest Foundation, which is considered a nonprofit organization supports education, provides support for other charitable sectors in the South Florida, arts, and culture in public place as well as water safety events. 

The Winterfest Parade attracts more than 1,000,000 cheering spectators along a 12-mile parade route, the largest, one-day, live audience event in Florida and the seventh-largest one-day spectator event in the country.

Customer Relations Coordinator for the Fort Lauderdale Area, Edwin J Vivas, and Customer Relations Specialist Taphine Wilcox were in attendance for the parade that took place on December 14, 2024. t’s a bird... It’s a plane… lots of planes! The Fort Lauderdale Air Show returned May 11th and 12th with thrilling acts by celebrated pilots from the military and entertainment industries.

New ParagrCustomer Relations Coordinator, Edwin Vivas represented the United States Postal Service, the Miami Dade County Postal Customer Council (PCC), the PCC of Broward County and the PCC of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast at a recent Biz Perks event sponsored by the Fort Lauderdale, FL, Chamber of Commerce.

This networking event took place at The Salvation Army of Fort Lauderdale, the Salvation Army directly assists families in many ways, including camps and recreation programs, food assistance, holiday programs, housing aid and activity centers.

Biz Perks offers a networking opportunity coordinated by the Chamber’s Small Business Council the third Friday of every month. I shared information on products and services and promoted the benefits of PCC membership. The Tri-County PCCs were on site to promote the USPS brand and recruit new PCC members. aph

South Florida Area PCC Classic Golf Tournament 2023 / Good News Story

The Postal Customer Council's (PCC) of Broward County, Miami Dade, and the West Palm Beach & Treasure Coast and mission is to foster a close working relationship between the U.S. Postal Service, Business Community, and Commercial Mailers. The South Florida Postal Customer Councils and the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the Puro Clean Classic Golf Tournament at the Woodmont Country Club, Tamarac Florida.

It was a great day to be on the golf course with sunny skies and a slight breeze. Breast Cancer Awareness / Stamp Dedication 2023 / Cleveland Clinic

Edwin Vivas, Customer Relations Coordinator and Postal CO Chair for the Postal Customer Council of Broward County. On October 11, 2023, dedicated a special semi postal stamp to create awareness about Breast Cancer and the much-needed funds to help fight it. The Postal Service — which was built on a foundation of service to the public — has used our stamp program throughout history to pull the nation together around important health issues like Breast Cancer Awareness. In 1998; we issued a Breast Cancer awareness stamp, these stamps are semi postal, which means the price covers the First-Class single-piece postage rate at the time of purchase — plus an amount to fund the designated cause.

On the anniversary of 9/11 attacks, We Will Never Forget. Many communities gathered to pay tributes to the heroes and victims of that fateful day while reaffirming the commitment to safety. Fort Lauderdale Airport was a place of remembrance, resilience, and unity. The USPS could not fall short and participated donating our Heroes Stamp featuring the first responders that flew the American flag over ground zero. Thanks to the dedication of individuals in Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and people of the community. The day began with a solemn gathering at the airport’s 9/11 memorial, a place where the aviation community paid tribute to the heroes and victims of that tragic day. The airport’s honor guard presented the colors, the Dillard Center for the Arts Vocal Program sang the national anthem, uniting the crowd in a shared sense of patriotism. Mark Gale, CEO/Director of the Broward County Aviation Department with a somber tone, addressed the attendees, highlighting the significance of this day for the aviation industry and the broader community. He emphasized the enduring commitment to passenger safety, and how 9/11 had reshaped the way airports operated. Gale also expressed gratitude to the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all travelers. Monica Cepero, Broward County Administrator remember the dreadful day and praised the resilience of the airport staff who face the daily challenges and unwavering dedication. Mayor, Lamar Fisher of Broward County, acknowledged the impact of the attacks on the local community and how it inspired a collective resolve to stand strong against adversity. He stressed the importance of unity and collaboration among agencies to maintain safety and security. Dylan DeFrancisci, Port Director CBP, spoke about the pivotal role Customs and Border Protection in safeguarding the nation’s borders and airports. He emphasized the continuous efforts to enhance security protocols while facilitating legitimate travel and trade. Jason Martin, TSA Federal Security Director, shared insights into the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety of air travel. He recognized the sacrifices made by TSA officers and their dedication to upholding the highest standards of security. BSO Colonel Nichole Anderson, representing the Broward Sheriff’s Office, addressed the crowd. She discussed the integral role law enforcement

Career Day / Pines Charter East Campus Elementary / Good News Story

The Pines Charter East Campus Elementary hosted their annual Career Day in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Broward County, Customer Relations Coordinator, (CRC) Edwin J Vivas, Fort Lauderdale VMF Auto Technician, Carlos Lopez, Miami-Dade County, Customer Relations Coordinator, Yanes Legra, and Postal Customer Council Board Member/Executive Director of Sales for PCI, Nelson Penalver were guest speakers for Pines Charter East Campus Elementary. The CRS’s Mr. Vivas and Ms. Legra explained to the children the everyday functions that Broward and Miami Dade County areas deal with. Mr. Vivas added what the mail carriers do to keep themselves safe from dogs and make sure they deliver mail in a safe manner. Auto Technician, Carlos Lopez also added how they make sure all postal vehicles are maintained to keep the mail flowing and our mail carriers safe. Mr. Lopez also reminded the children to please stay a safe distance away from all postal vehicles. Mr. Penalver, explained how every company relies on the United States Mail Service for critical functions, including printing and sending invoices, marketing campaigns, and other important communications. Mr. Penalver explained the Partnership, between the United States Postal Service, PCI, and The Postal Customer Council of South Florida. 

 

The Pines Charter East Campus Elementary students really enjoyed learning all the ins and outs that occur in all South Florida Post Offices.

Neighbors 4 Neighbors Carousel of Giving 30th Anniversary Celebration / Stamp Dedication / Good News Story

Mr. Vivas was pleased to represent the Postal Service to honor one of our commemorative stamps, during the Neighbors 4 Neighbors Carousel of Giving 30th Anniversary Celebration. Held at the beautiful Carousel Club at Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach.   

 

Neighbors Helping Neighbors was originally created in 1992 in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew by WCIX – Channel 6 as a relief effort. The program had such an overwhelming response that Neighbors Helping Neighbors became Neighbors 4 Neighbors, a separate 501c3 nonprofit that continued to be an important resource for all individuals and families facing everyday crises.

 

Let’s Celebrate! features an array of colorful circles in varying sizes arranged in a random pattern. The letters in the word “celebrate,” cast in a dark green hue, appear inside several bright circles. On this occasion, I presented the Let’s Celebrate Stamp issued in 2020 to Neighbors 4 Neighbors. In attendance were various Business Professionals as well as President & CEO, Katy Meagher, for Neighbors 4 Neighbors. (pictured in the photo-right)

We were pleased to represent the Postal Service to honor one of our commemorative stamps. During the 23rd Annual Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale Tribute recognizes community leaders for their many contributions to the beautification of the various parks within the Fort Lauderdale Area. We presented the one of the Stamps from the Thank You Stamp Collection to the honorees. In attendance were various Business Professionals and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean J. Trantalis. 

The Broward & Beyond Business Conference was held this past Friday at the Signature Grand in Davie, FL. This brought great opportunities for small businesses to network, learn how to promote their business and stay updated on the industry trends. The Miami Dade County PCC, PCC of Broward County and the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast administrators  were available to promote each PCC and the benefits that being part of a PCC brings to their business. Guest speakers included the Press, Jacqueline Jimenez, Vice President of Multicultural Business & Community Engagement for Visit Lauderdale, Neki Mohan, Director of Marketing and Communications, Paula Mescolin, and President and CEO of Mosaic Group, Ann Marie Sorrell. The attendees had the pleasure of hearing from Aisha Bowe who is a former Nasa Rocket Scientist, Founder and CEO of Stemboard & Lingo. The Broward & Beyond Business Conference was a big success. All the attendees had the opportunity to grow both professionally and individually.

Mr. Vivas was pleased to represent the Postal Service to honor one of our commemorative stamps, during the There’s No Place Like Home Gala. Held at the beautiful Tower Club in Fort Lauderdale. 


The mission of the TaskForce Fore Ending Homelessness is to reach out to individuals who are experiencing homelessness and provide placement in a program that will help get them “home” in Broward County. 


There are many reasons to say, “I love you” and countless ways to show you care. This particular Love Stamp features graphic illustrations of flowers inspired by old European folk art. Twisting vines, which hold small petaled flowers form abstract heart shapes. On this occasion, I presented the Love Stamp issued in 2022 to TaskForce Fore Ending Homelessness. In attendance were various Business Professionals as well as Chief Executive Officer, Carl Falconer, for the TaskForce Fore Ending Homelessness. (pictured in the photo - right)

2023. Navy Fleet week

Bob Licari was invited by the Postmaster to join in a Private Tour of the USS Cole Battleship in Port Everglades Florida. The USS Cole was attacked by Al-Qaeda suicide cell. 17 Sailors were killed. The ship has since been upgraded to new technology and all damages were repaired.

The Miami Dade County PCC (MDCPCC) and PCC of Broward County attended the grand opening of Profile Aesthetics and Wellness in Wilton Manors.

This was a great networking and interaction event with the business community. Pictured below in the center, Victor addressed the importance

of the business community joining forces to provide a better service to each community in our area. Lamont DeJarnett, manager of USPS sales

dept (bottom left) spoke to a business owner about the services the Postal Service can provide to small businesses.

Red Dress Dress Red Gala / 2022 Love Stamp Dedication

Customer Relations Coordinator, (CRC) Edwin J Vivas (Center Stage) for the United States Postal Service for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Area as well as the Administrative Staff for the Postal Customer Council for Broward County.

Mr. Vivas was pleased to represent the Postal Service to honor one of our commemorative stamps, during the Red Dress Dress Red Gala hosted by the World AIDS Museum on February 4, 2023. Held at the beautiful Design Center of the Americas. 

The World Aids Museum was built to raise awareness and eradicate stigma of HIV/AIDS by documenting the history, remembering those who have suffered, educating people about the disease, enlightening the world to this continuing tragedy and empowering the survivors.

Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual worldwide campaign that increases awareness on multiple levels about the most common cancer diagnosed in U.S. women each October. Breast Cancer Awareness Month reminds women (and men) that part of their regular self-care routine should including self-monthly exams.

The Breast Cancer Research semi postal that first issued in July of 1998, was presented to the Pride Center at Equality Park whose mission is to provide a welcoming, safe space–an inclusive home–that celebrates, nurtures and empowers the LGBTQ+ communities. The Pride Center is a major site for HIV testing, prevention, outreach, education, healthcare linkage, support, recreational activities, healthy aging seminars, cultural and counseling. On October 2, 2022 we did a special semi postal stamp dedication to raise awareness about Breast Cancer and the much-needed funds to help fight it. The Postal Service — which was built on a foundation of service to the public — has used our stamp program throughout history to pull the nation together around important health issues like Breast Cancer. In 1998; we issued a Breast Cancer awareness stamp, these stamps are semi postal, which means the price covers the First-Class single-piece postage rate at the time of purchase — plus an amount to fund the designated cause.

National PCC Day

On Thursday September 22, 2022, the Miami Dade County PCC, Broward County PCC and the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast PCC hosted the National PCC Day event “Facing the Future Together.” This was an event filled with educational information, starting with our, Postmaster General, Louis Dejoy’s message , CIO Pritha Mehra, our Inspectors Blanca Alvarez and Ivan Ramirez and last but not least Scott Filhaber. Our topics included the future of the Postal Service, the different services the postal service can provide our business customers, keeping yourself safe from fraud and marketing to millennials. In attendance, we had international delegates and VP speakers. The administrators and management team showed their support. There were a total of 82 postal and industry attendees, making it a successful event.
